The banquet_metabolism and communication project included an exhibition, workshops, round tables and interventions in public spaces. It proposed a journey from biology to information sciences. It started from the transformation of matter and energy to explore the interactions between substances and ideas; the synergies between emotions and behaviors; and the correlations between images, sounds and symbols. All of them, understood as ingredients, symbolic and material, of an 'expanded metabolism' that makes up everyday experience. Tracing the correspondences between the processes of metabolism and communication, banquet_ invited us to reflect on our consumption habits, our meeting places (and disagreements), our communication devices (and lack of communication), our relationship with others and with the environment.
Taken up again in the sense of dialogue, as introduced by Plato in Western culture, this project was articulated as a conversation between artists, scientists and thinkers from the most diverse backgrounds and disciplines. The exhibition brought together works by more than 70 artists from 27 countries, with specialists from fields such as biology, economics, literature, anthropology, communication, neurosciences or social and environmental activism.
