Emeritus Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Barcelona (Spain). Former director of the Food Observatory of the Barcelona Science Park. He has been president of the Catalan Institute of Anthropology, vice-dean of the Faculty of Geography and History at the University of Barcelona, associate researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS, France) and visiting professor at the University of Cambridge (GB). His specialties are economic anthropology, particularly food consumption. He has developed several investigations on the relationships between the evolution of life forms and their relationship with dietary changes. He is the author of twenty books and about two hundred articles. Among his publications we should highlight: Subsistence, ritual and power in the Andes (1986), Anthropology of food (1993), Food and culture: needs, tastes and customs (1995), Productes de la terra (2003), Flavors of the Mediterranean (2005), Food and Culture. Anthropological perspectives (2005) and Alimentaçao, societye e cultura (2011).
He has participated in Medialab Madrid, in the context of the Banquete_Metabolism and communication exhibition in the transdisciplinary symposium, with the Cosmogonías de la Alimentación conference.
