Activities carried out

Preparation and implementation of a teaching unit

October 2022

The team made up of teachers and researchers from the Complutense University of Madrid, the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the University of Salamanca made a proposal for a teaching unit to participating secondary school teachers related to discussion and improvements in content, implementation method, evaluation criteria, learning standards and key competencies in a subsequent online session.

The model used was the one developed by European Schoolnet and the Europeana Foundation for the integration of cultural heritage into the academic curriculum.

After that, work was done jointly on the development of teaching resources accessible through digital tools (Kahoot, Padlet and Mentimeter) for their implementation.

In the following days they were sent the didactic unit corrected, as well as the contents sheet with those additional contents proposed by the secondary education teachers so that they could prepare the classes and proceed to their implementation.

Workshop at the Complutense University of Madrid (Moncloa Campus)

November 2022

The participating centers attended a workshop at the Complutense University of Madrid within Science Week 2022 that sought to strengthen the scientific vocation of students and their knowledge about future professional opportunities as well as improve students' ability to create collaborative solutions to contribute to sustainable development in their closest environment.

In the workshops, the concepts about urban sustainability learned in the classroom were reinforced, emphasizing citizen participation to improve their city, and they were presented with the methodology of citizen laboratories along with their results included in the MediaLab Madrid Archive. After that, they developed in a participatory way and as a team the basic prototype of digital creative projects to contribute to a sustainable city.

Digital proposal competition for sustainable development in the city

Nov 2022 - Feb 2023

During the months of November, December, January and February, each group of 5 students worked on developing a complete prototype of the selected project using digital tools and subsequently publishing it along with an explanation in a 1-minute video format.

After that, the students from each center chose the most attractive proposals, viewing them in 6 categories: urban biodiversity, urban mobility, energy efficiency, responsible consumption and action, citizen participation, and health, well-being and communication.

During the month of March, an event was held where the groups with the most votes were able to present their video along with a speech or elevator pitch in front of different researchers and business leaders.

Visit to the Campus and meeting with research groups

May 2023

During the month of May, guided visits were made to different research centers, technical schools and faculties so that the students could learn first-hand about the work and innovative practice of the Moncloa Campus research groups related to the proposals the students had worked on.
