Filmmaker, video artist, documentary filmmaker and teacher. She began her career in the 1980s as a visual artist creating performance works and installations. In Vídeo Cabine Numero 1, she installed filming booths in different locations in Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, open to the participation of passers-by. In Parabolic People, she played with montage to create a palimpsest screen of languages, peoples and behaviours. In 1995, she directed the artistic project Globograph for TV Globo. Her artistic career found a new field of exploration in documentary and fiction film. Her first feature film was Hungarian Passport, followed by Mutum, Campo Grande and Tres veranos. She has presented her work in different institutions and festivals, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum (New York), the Harvard Film Archive and the Forum des Images (Paris), the Cannes Film Festival (Directors' Fortnight) and the Toronto International Film Festival.
