Doctor in Semiology and History of Culture from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales in Paris, he has developed a vast and prestigious journalistic career. From 1990 to 2008 he directed the French edition of Le Monde diplomatique and since that year, the Spanish edition of the publication. Co-founder of the non-governmental organization Media Watch Global (International Media Observatory), founder and honorary president of the ATTAC organization, he is one of the promoters of the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre. Ramonet is the author or co-author of twenty books, of which, among others, have been published in Spain: A world without direction (1997), The tyranny of communication (1998), The visual candy (2000), Marcos, the Rebel Dignity (2001), Wars of the 21st Century (2002), Iraq: History of a Disaster (2005), Fidel Castro: Biography in Two Voices (2006), Rebel Paris: Political and Tourist Guide to a City (2008) and The perfect catastrophe: crisis of the century and refoundation of the future (2010), The explosion of journalism: from the mass media to the mass media (2011) and Hugo Chávez: my first life (2013).
