(Warsaw, Poland, 1941-1996)
Filmmaker and screenwriter, trained at the Lodz school. He worked for television for years, starting with The Scar (1976) he shot for cinema and became known at European festivals with films such as Amator (1979). His Decalogue series (1987-1989) narrates everyday conflicts with a slow and intimate style. He moved to France where he consolidated his poetic style and produced works such as The Double Life of Verónica (1991), a suggestive reflection on destiny and chance. He then filmed the Three Colors trilogy, consisting of Azul (1993), Blanco (1993) and Rojo (1994). His filmography reveals an ethereal sensitivity, questions that are never closed, an obsession with chance, a metaphysical outline of pain or the desire for transcendence as constants in life.
