Since 1990, the Light Laboratory, located at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Valencia, has functioned as a space for meeting, studying and researching aesthetic and expressive principles linked to the light-image. Currently, the components of the laboratory belong to different departments and their participation varies depending on the proposals that are being developed: working between the collective and the individual, between university research and artistic activity, between the production of projects and the dissemination of texts, as an area open to those people who want to develop their work under this interdisciplinary structure.
They participate in Medialab Madrid with the interactive installation Modular luz 3.0 based on the kinetic relationships of projected light and speech acts. In an empty stage space, a complex mechanical system is deployed, with microphones that act as a sensor layer or stratum, DMX robotic spotlights and specific software made in C++—as a synapse layer or state—to generate an interactive lighting environment of a semi-autonomous where the movement of light is given as a response or output layer. This network of relationships is fed back by an audio patch, made in Max/MSP, for the generation of sound in real time based on the input data. The interventions of the spectators-actors through the microphones introduce into the Light Modulator 3.0 system, the breakdown in the machine routine based on connections or links that generate a “network”.
