(Austria, 1951)
He studied Art History, Romanesque Studies and Philosophy in Graz and at the Università per Stranieri of Perugia, PhD. Since 1978 scientific assistant at the Neue Galerie, since 1993 deputy director, 1998-2011 director of the Neue Galerie Graz at the Joanneum State Museum. Exhibition curator and author of numerous publications on 19th and 20th century art and contemporary art.
He participated in Medialab Madrid with the exhibition “Postmedia Condition” (February 8 to April 2, 2006), within the framework of Digital Culture. “Postmedia Condition” brought to Madrid a selection of works by almost 40 artists from the country invited to Arco this year: Austria. The term "postmedia" is ideal to characterize the set of artistic practices on which the concept of this exhibition is based. Artists experiment with media, materials and functions, adapt new production processes, mix properties of different media and construct new reference systems. There is no longer a dominant medium. On the contrary, the media influence, condition and reflect each other. Interdisciplinary processes between drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, film, video, literature, architecture, design, Internet art and computer language become methodological principles in this exhibition that drew our attention to Austrian art and its international contribution. Production: Neue Galerie de Graz (Austria). Austria in Arco'06. Curators: Elisabeth Fiedler and Christa Steinle. Scientific advisor: Peter Weibel.
