(United Kingdom, 1970)
Video-artist. He began working as a special effects expert. After making models and sculptures for films such as "Night Breeds" and "Alien 3", his work caught the attention of Stanley Kubrick. Under Kubrick's orders, Cunningham built robots for "AI", an ambitious science fiction film that the filmmaker interrupted to make "Eyes Wide Shut", his posthumous film. The stoppage of the project was the stimulus that the young man needed to abandon the field of special effects and dedicate himself completely to making video clips. After directing numerous low-budget videos mainly for groups on the UK electronic scene, in 1997 Cunningham shot the clip that confirmed him as the most rising value among the new creators of the medium. "Come to Daddy", a disturbing piece for acclaimed techno artist Aphex Twin. However, his willingness to only work for artists with whom he maintains an aesthetic affinity, such as Portishead, Squarepusher, Autechre or Leftfield, has allowed him to stay away from the most commercial names in the music industry, with the sole exception of "Frozen", the clip with which Madonna announced her conversion to electronic music in 1998. In 2000, for his video for “All Is Full Of Love” (Björk), he was awarded by MTV, at the Music Week CAD Awards, at the MVPA Awards and at the Design And Art Direction Awards. In this last contest he obtained, among other medals, a gold medal for his direction in the “Pop Promos” category.
