Bioartist. Doctor and Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (1999). Researcher at the MIT Biology Department. He has been a professor at San Francisco State University (SFSU), SymbioticA (UWA), Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), University of Leiden's The Arts and Genomic Center (TAGC), Waag Society and at Das Arts. He has taught DIY-IGM (Do-It-Yourself Inhereted Genetic Modification of the Human Genome) classes at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) and New York University (NYU).
Zaretsky is also director of VASTAL (The Vivoarts School for Transgenic Aesthetics Ltd.). His artistic work focuses on the legal, ethical and social implications of biotechnological materials and uses, focusing on transgenics.
He participated in MedialabMadrid with "The Aesthetics of Care".
