Wolfgang Scheffler

(Austria, 1956)

Inventor. Master in Physics from the University of Cologne (1983). Developer of the Scheffler parabolic reflectors: large, flexible parabolic reflectors that concentrate sunlight for solar-powered cooking in community kitchens, bakeries, or the first solar crematorium. Its first use was the application of solar cooking in rural areas of Kenya, replacing scarce firewood. Later, it spread to other countries such as India. In 1992 he founded the NGO Solare Bruecke and in 2006 he received the Nuclear-Free Future award.

He participated in MediaLab Madrid with the intervention “banquete_03. Solar kitchen. Wolfgang Scheffler, Andreas Wegner and Fundación Tierra”. A large satellite dish, one of the symbols of the current era of communication, was converted into a large solar kitchen that invited everyone who approached the exhibition to conversation and food.
