Mexican conceptual artist, photographer and videographer. He studied Art at the Directorate of Regional Culture Promotion of the State of Sinaloa (DIFOCUR) and Communication Sciences at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Margolles explores violence, social injustice, repression and drug trafficking in Mexico. Blood, morgues and the decomposition of corpses have been the main focus of his work. In 2008, Margolles made a series of pieces around the femicides in Ciudad Juárez, with Sounds of Death, a spectacular sound installation with recorded audio of the places where the bodies of murdered women were found. In 1990, the artist founded the group SEMEFO with Arturo Ángulo Gallardo, Juan Luis García Zavaleta and Carlos López Orozco. At first, the group was dedicated to performing, but little by little they entered the art scene, mounting their first exhibition in 1993. Since then, Margolles has received several awards, including two scholarships from the National Fund for Culture and the Arts. for Young Creators, an Acquisition award at the VII Cuenca Biennial in Ecuador and an Honorable Mention at the Northwest Biennial in Culiacán, Sinaloa.
