She is a Scientific Researcher at the National Center for Biotechnology (CSIC), of which she is vice-director and where she directs the Evolutionary Systems Group focused on the investigation of biological phenomena, developing theoretical and computational descriptions on the evolution of molecular populations, especially in viruses and sequences. of RNA, and in quantitative analysis of evolutionary and adaptive mechanisms. He has directed numerous research projects and published more than a hundred articles in scientific journals. She is the author of several books, including the award-winning "Genes and genealogies. About our cultural and biological heritage" and has extensive experience in science dissemination. Motivated by the current pandemic, she has worked on the study of the limits to predictability based on epidemiological models and empirical data.
