(Austria, 1959)
Multimedia artist. Considered one of the pioneers of computer generated art. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and has exhibited his works since 1979. His work takes an approach based on architecture, film and new digital media. Kogler began experimenting in art in the early 1970s with pieces that exalted the gestural-symbolic. He has focused all his attention on researching digital painting in relation to architecture and the creation of virtual spaces. Its organic textures cover walls, ceilings and even facades and create unique environments, only modified by the viewer themselves. Symbols such as tubes, ants or brains abound in his works, creating shocking sensations and illusions.
Not only has he worked in closed spaces, he has also intervened on building facades and public spaces. It intervened in the Vienna airport parking lot in 2005, and projected animations on historical monuments in Paris and Frankfurt. In Basel, for example, he simulated a virtual urban sky in the middle of the street. One of his last outdoor works was for RUHR.2010, where he projected images onto an amphitheater more than 200 meters long, on the edge of an artificial lake.
He participated in MediaLab Madrid in “Digital Culture” with “Ohne Titel (Untitled), 1993”.
