Neil Thompson

He graduated in French Philology and Linguistics from the London School of Economics in 1974. In 1977 he began his career in social work as an official resident educator at the then Clwyd County Council. In 1982 he achieved the Certificate of Qualification in Social Work (CQSW) from the University of Liverpool. In 1990 he received his doctorate from Keele University with research on the theory and practice of the relationships between existentialist philosophy and social work. This base theory has been the major theme of his academic work. In 1991 he left Cheshire to return to Clwyd as a trainee child protection officer. In 1996 he was appointed Professor of Social Work and enrolled in Social Studies at Staffordshire University. In 2000 he founded Avenue Consulting Ltd and Learning Curve Publishing with his wife, Susan. In 2011 he was awarded the BASW Cymru (Wales branch of the British Association of Social Workers) award for his career. In 2014 he received the Dr. Robert Fulton Award from the Center for Death Education and Bioethics at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
