(Graz, Austria, 1962)
Artist. Since 1992 he has worked with Adi Rosenblum under the name Muntean/Rosenblum. The analytical nature of his work, which forms a system of complex structures that allows for different simultaneous readings and points of view, seems entirely suited to a form of dialogue or teamwork. Today, Muntean/Rosenblum are well known internationally for their conceptual work that mixes references to art history with others to popular culture. And they do so in an attractive way, as they are never didactic, adding more personal themes or issues. Translating codes from the past to the present day, or debating the multitudinous use of images of different nature, they reflect on both the power of images and their vulnerability, suggesting that they are supported by ideologies that are not always visible, and even subconscious; that they can be easily manipulated, or which are currently used by many people who are not artists to express themselves or communicate, creating stories of a filmic nature that are generally vain and for immediate consumption.
He participated in MediaLab Madrid in “Digital Culture” with “Untitled (Not to be, not to be at all), 2003”.
