Doctor in Information Sciences and professor at the Department of Journalism and Communication Sciences of the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Extraordinary Doctorate Award (1988-1989). Mass Communication Research Award. He was Minister of Culture and Media of the Generalitat of Catalonia during the second tripartite between 2006 and 2010. Since 2016, he has presided over the Josep Irla Foundation. He is the author, among others, of El regne del subjecte, 1987, Cultura de masses y postmodernitat, together with Enric Marín, 1994, La gènesi de la societat de masses a Catalunya, 1888-1939, with Francesc Espinet, 1999. He is co-author of the reports on "Monitoring the social impact of new information and communication technologies", sponsored by the Fundació Jaume Bofill, and has coordinated the "Culture" block of the Report for Catalonia of 2000. He has collaborated in the Technological Transformation Conferences of communication and sociocultural change held at Medialab, within the framework of the Evolving Communication Banquet.
