
He is a professor of linguistics at the University of Antwerp (Belgium), a member of CeMIS (Centrum voor Migratie en Interculturele Studies) and the Institute for Urban Studies. Founder and Secretary General of the International Pragmatics Association (IPrA) and director of the IPrA Research Center. His main interests are semantics, pragmatics, intercultural communication and the reflective use of language in the public sphere. Among his most relevant works are “Understanding Pragmatics” (1999) and “Handbook of Pragmatics” (1995).
