Professor, theorist and researcher. Research Professor of Interactive Media at the University Hogeschool van Amsterdam, Professor of Media Theory at the European Graduate School and Associate Professor of New Media at the University of Amsterdam.
He is founder and director of the Institute of Network Cultures, which aims to explore, document and nurture the potential of new media to provoke social, economic and cultural changes. He is the author of works such as “Zero Comments: Blogging and Critical Internet Culture” (2007), “Networks Without a Cause: A Critique of Social Media” (2011), “Social Media Abyss: Critical Internet Cultures and the Force of Negation” ( 2016), “Dark Fiber: Tracing the Critical Culture of the Internet” (2004), “Networks Without a Cause” (2016) and “Sad by Design: Social Media as Ideology” (2019), among others.
