Diego Lama Cabieses

(Lima, Peru, 1980)

Visual artist. He studied Visual Arts at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, USA. He has exhibited internationally at the Havana Biennial, the Curitiba Biennial, the Reina Sofía Museum in Madrid, the Ludwig Museum in Colonia and The Getty Museum in Los Angeles. He has received various awards, scholarships and distinctions, including the HIVOS program in Holland, the Carolina Foundation in Spain and the Visiting Arts program in England. Among the awards awarded are the Best Film Award at the Lima Independent Film Festival, the Petrobras Buenos Aires Photo Award and the Videofest Award in San Francisco. His work is part of various international collections such as The Getty Center in the United States, the Videobrasil Collection, Caixa Forum and CCCB in Barcelona, the Cervantes Institute in Munich, the Wifredo Lam Center in Cuba and the Lima Art Museum.

Since the beginning of his career, Lama has continuously developed a body of work focused on the research and experimentation of the moving image, with a particular focus on the thought of cinema, without moving away from the empirical nature of his training as a visual artist. . In that sense, he proposes three lines in his work to create various degrees of complicity with the viewer: the first focuses on the investigation of Aristotelian narrative; the second in the poetics of the image; and the third in the significance of the medium and its relationship with space.

Her work is characterized by the use of irony in analogies where the representation of power structures is subverted to reveal various articulations of the human condition - both in politics and in the world of art - as well as in gender issues, often using references from sources such as cinema and psychoanalytic theory.

He participated in Medialab Madrid through the “Videoart of Peru” meeting (April 14, 2005): exhibition and debate around his latest works, with the presence of the author.
