Artist and media researcher. Pioneer in the field of interactive media. Master in Science and Visual Studies from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (1985). PhD from the CAiiA, Center for Advanced Inquiry in the Interactive Arts, University of Wales (1999). Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) (1985-1987), at The College of Fine Arts (Sydney, Australia) (1992-1995), at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (1996-1999), at RISD of Rhode Island (2002-2008) and at Duke University since 2008.
Since 1980 he has collaborated with computational media researchers and programmers, creating new experimental forms of interactive production. He has collaborated in various art and science publications. Awarded the ACM SIGGRAPH for “Recombinant Poetics / Recombinant Informatics / Neosentience.”
