ICREA Research Professor at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO), where he leads the research group on quantum information theory. He has a doctorate in theoretical physics from the University of Barcelona (UB) and has focused his academic career on one of the areas with the most future potential in contemporary physics: quantum computing. As a renowned expert in quantum information theory, he has been interested in the possibilities of applying quantum effects to new information tasks. His research is opening new practical paths in the way we process information, and his most relevant results lead us towards more powerful computers and more secure encryption protocols, among other achievements. His research work, which he has carried out between Barcelona and Geneva, has been awarded with multiple prestigious scholarships and an AXA Chair on Quantum Information Science award (2016).
