Angel Gabilondo

(Guipúzcoa, 1949)

Politician, university professor and Ombudsman. Professor of Metaphysics at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters. He received his doctorate in 1983. He has taught the subject of Metaphysics, as well as subjects on the History of Modern Philosophy, Hermeneutics and Theories of Argumentation. Understands philosophy as a way of life and studies its impact, especially on contemporary thought. Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters from 1989 to 1992. Previously he was vice dean
of Professorship from 1986 to 1989. Gabilondo has also been rector of the Autonomous University of Madrid from May 2002 to April 2009, and president of the Conference of Rectors of the Universities of Madrid (CRUMA) from 2004 to 2006. Likewise , from 2007 to 2009 he was president of the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE). In his work as rector he was co-president of the Madrid Science Park Foundation, co-president of the UAM-EL PAÍS Foundation, vice president of the University-Business Foundation and member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Commission of Portal Universia. He was Minister of Education (April 2009-December 2011) and spokesperson for the Socialist Parliamentary Group in the Madrid Assembly (May 2015-May 2021).

He participated in Medialab Madrid banquete05 in the conference “Property of knowledge and life”, with the presentation “Traces of Eros: reading and writing”.
