(Germany, 1955)
Photographer. Trained at the Folkwang University of the Arts (Essen, Germany) with Michael Schmidt (1977-1980) and at the Art Academy Düsseldorf (Germany) with Bernd Becher and Kasper König. He was a professor at the Art Academy of Düsseldorf (Germany) between 2010 and 2018.
It uses digital post-production techniques to create monumental panoramic landscapes with impossible perspectives and infinite detail, which constitute metaphors for our current lives. His core work is characterized by photographing spaces frontally, from a remote point of view, which encourages reflection and observation of each of the parts as well as the landscape as a whole. To this end, his photographs are always displayed in giant size, which allows us to appreciate the details that are remote from unfathomable spaces.
He has exhibited internationally in institutions such as the Tate Gallery, the Center national d'art et de culture Georges-Pompidou, the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía or the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, among others.
