The Worker's Lunch Box
Date: May 26, 2005
Can a video game become a tool for social integration? Artists, educators, programmers and designers presented the current development of Bordergames, done in open source and framed in the Madrid neighborhood of Lavapiés.

Bordergames presents the multiple problems in which immigrant teenagers living in neighborhoods of the large cities of the 'First World' are immersed. The main objective of the project is the construction of a tool, in video game format and using free software, that makes it easier for young people to develop expressive and organizational autonomy. This can allow them to represent themselves and the present reality of their community, in an environment in which their cultural traditions mix with the urban context in which they currently live. In turn, Bordergames will function as an instrument of coordination and
social and cultural communication, to generate community and share useful information through the game.
