His work moves from a pure initial conceptualism to a critical discourse that shows the gears of economic power and the way in which culture masks the real interests of large companies. His works question the mechanisms and functions of cultural, political and economic institutions, which appear to be active tools in the construction and transmission of identity and ideological values favorable to the discourse and expansion of globalization. It builds relationship systems through literal elements taken from everyday life, whose critical meaning emerges through symbolic collision when juxtaposed, seeking, rather than denouncing, to reveal the relationship between art and social behavior. Institutional censorship has been a constant that Hans Haacke's work has suffered and, at the same time, an element that this artist has known how to include, in real time, in his systems. The potential of social systems lies in their ability to point out the contradictions that occur between the essentialist narratives of art and the practices on which the art institution is sustained, as well as in their willingness to modify the apparatus of art production. In his work he analyzes and reflects on the market and globalization, in The Invisible Hand of the Market (2009); the relationship between art, sponsorship and advertising in the attempt to acquire respectable corporate images in Thank you Payne Webber (1979), Global Marketing (1986-2011) or Helmsboro Country (1990).
